Zig Zag Urns

FREQUENTLT ASKED QUESTIONS

Are Zig Zag urns appropriate for burial?

After sealing, our urns are waterproof and appropriate for burial. A vault isn't necessary but some families prefer to have a wooden box made to contain the urn and some private cemeteries require clients to buy one of their concrete vaults.

How do you seal an urn?

Our urns come with a generous lip on the lid. Use a small tube of silicon sealer from the hardware store. This is the same material used to seal a bathroom sink. After filling the urn, squeeze a bead of sealer around the bottom of the lip and set the lid in place on the urn body. Jiggle it around a bit to make sure you have a complete seal and allow the urn to sit still while the sealer dries. If you intend to reopen the urn for later scattering or to add remains, we will supply you with a putty like material which will temporarily seal the urn.

Will the urn hold all the remains?

In the early '80s, there were lawsuits over what happened to the remains that didnt fit in an urn. Funeral directors got together and came up with capacity requirements to ensure that all the remains from virtually any cremation would fit in the urns they carried. Our urns meet these specifications.

Do I have to buy an urn from the funeral home or can I buy my own?

Federal Trade Commission consumer protection laws require funeral homes to use what the customer provides. FTC ruling on funeral matters can be read at this link:

Can you do custom scenes?

Our illustration techniques involve cutting a number of stencils and profiles from original drawings. If we can construct a scene using existing artwork, we can produce custom work at little or no extra cost, but if we need to make additional drawings and cut artwork, custom scenes get prohibitively expensive. To see if it is possible for us to create a scene and what the cost would be, contact us.
